Council 'to work with landlords'
2009-01-07
Buy to let mortgage holders in Doncaster are to work with the local council to ensure tenants are offered high-quality rented accommodation.
As reported by the Sheffield Star, Doncaster council has appointed Gary Wells to lead a new initiative designed to boost the range of affordable housing options available for local residents.
The move comes after the onset of recession in the UK has restricted the range of mortgage finance options on the market and left many people struggling to afford a home.
However, buy to let mortgage holders could soon be attracting these local residents into good quality, affordable rented accommodation, the council hopes.
Mr Wells told the paper: "I believe we are well positioned to achieve an excellent housing service in Doncaster, particularly as we have an excellent team who will help to make it happen."
The council plans to clamp down on rogue landlords but reward those who cooperate to improve property standards, the article noted.
